A Ball Rubik's Cube is a Toy Puzzle that can be Solved By Twisting Six Faces

A Ball Rubik's Cube is a toy puzzle that can be solved by twisting its six faces until each side shows a solid color. It was designed in 1974 by Erno Rubik and was first sold in Hungary. The cube has nine colored squares on each face, with three yards of each color. A ball version of the Rubik's Cube was designed by Uwe Mèffert and was first sold in the early 1980s.

The ball version is solved the same way as the cube, but it is more difficult because the balls can move more quickly than the squares on the cube. The ball has 54 small colored balls, 27 of each color. There are also six balls in the holes of the six sides. Any ball may be rotated, so it is on top, but not if it would cause any other balls to fall out of their holes onto the face below.

The cube version has eight corners and twelve edges, each connecting three square faces. There are also six centers containing four squares each, which are no edges or corners. The game aims to get all of the balls on top of their respective colored squares by rotating them to fall into the correct hole. This can be done by trial and error or by using a set of more efficient algorithms.

The cube was initially called the Magic Cube. It became known as the Rubik's Cube after its inventor, Erno Rubik, patented it in 1975. The ball version was first called the Magic Ball. It became known as the Rubik's Magic Ball after its inventor, Uwe Mèffert, patented it in 1985.
